Pride is often considered the foremost of the deadly sins, as through it all other sins enter the soul. In Ensor’s representation, a prosperous man with an overly large head blithely receives the truckling greetings of his inferiors, who kiss his hands and bow to him. Time and Death, represented by skeletons, are not far away.
