Rather than resting in a vase, Minnie Evan’s flowers twine through meditative mandalas that speak to the harmony between plant, human, and superhuman life forms. Evans, who experienced both religious visions and vivid dreams throughout most of her life, began making art at age forty-three after one such visionary experience compelled her to take up drawing. The resulting kaleidoscopic artworks are filled with religious symbolism as well as lush flora, perhaps inspired by her day job working at the Airlie Estate, which later became one of the most famous gardens in North Carolina.
