Working around the austere tenets of Minimalism, Lynda Benglis asserted a desire to create “something that related to the body that was humanistic and not machine-like.” Through her elegant fusion of painting and sculpture, Benglis revels in the creation of organic forms that radiate with life, growth, and sensuality by drawing on the body and the effects of both gravity and nature. Voile Humaine embodies this aspect of her oeuvre. In her words, “The glass being translucent referred to the title Voile, which seemed to be a torso or a knee or some other section of the body.”
