Art Conversations

Looking for more art conversations? Join us in person or online on the first Tuesday of every month for Conversation Pieces.

Through Lines

Museum Galleries, Stent Family Wing, Second Level, Gallery 203 | 11 a.m.

How do different artworks approach similar ideas in unique ways? In these lively conversations, we will explore two different pieces to connect art across time, geography, identity, and belief.

Through Lines meets at the first artwork location and lasts thirty to forty-five minutes. Please see below for times, artworks, and locations. Stools and assistive listening devices will be available and are highly recommended.

Marcel Wanders (Dutch, born 1963), Crochet Chair (prototype) (2006), and Isamu Noguchi (American, 1904–1988), Basket Chair (designed 1950; fabricated 2008).

Four people stand in an art gallery, observing a colorful, patterned sculpture of a human figure with an elaborate headpiece. Paintings hang on the white walls behind them.

Experiment, play, and exercise your creativity during Open Studio! This informal drop-in program encourages adults of all ages to explore different materials and techniques with guidance from High Museum of Art teaching artists. Materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.

Drawing inspiration from Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer,” manipulate plastic, wire, and paper to create playful three-dimensional designs and sculptures. Invent curious forms for functional objects, develop spaces for play, or build abstract sculptures focused on material and form.
