This impressive collection includes paintings, prints, maps, and decorative art objects by the period’s leading Dutch artist and reflects how the Dutch wished to represent themselves, their ideals, and their concerns in a world that was rapidly shifting due to the influence of international expansion and colonialism.

In this studio workshop, instructor Daniel Mantilla will motivate us to rethink the concept of still life through careful observation of still life displays and will walk through the steps of forming a composition, underpainting, color theory, and value to enhance each work.

Designed to serve educators of all grade levels (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12) and all content areas, this one-day, in-person event will explore best practices and innovations in arts education while providing educators exclusive access to world-class art, as well as meaningful opportunities to connect with fellow educators and related professionals.

Organized around objects in the exhibition Dutch Art in a Global Age: Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and in the High’s collection, this four-week course will explore the relationships between local and nonlocal, nature and artifice, religious and secular, and freedom and control. Central to the examination of prints, paintings, decorative objects, and more will be an awareness of the human costs associated with globalization and how art can highlight and elide complex historical narratives.

Experience the triumphant homecoming exhibition of Atlanta native Tyler Mitchell (born 1995), Tyler Mitchell: Idyllic Space. Mitchell ascended to global prominence after photographing Beyoncé for Vogue’s September 2018 issue, the first Black artist to shoot the cover in the magazine’s history.

Since 2018, the High has more than quintupled its holdings of quilts made by Black women. Highlighting this impactful collection, Patterns in Abstraction: Black Quilts from the High’s Collection explores the question, “How can quilts made by African American women change how we view the history of abstraction?”
