Thorne Anderson is a photojournalist who has been covering international news with Corbis/Sygma since 1999. Anderson photographed in Iraq before the war began in 2003, and then spent ten months there between 2003 and 2005. He chose not to become an embedded journalist with the Pentagon, and instead covered the events of the war in Baghdad from a civilian, or “unembedded,” perspective. This print is part of the Unembedded portfolio of photographs made by Anderson. The series documents the effects of the United States’ and allied forces’ invasion of Iraq, and the impact of the war on the lives of Iraqi citizens.
