Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect when my students are at the High? How many works of art will students see?
We help students develop observational skills and build curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy. On a guided tour, students will look closely at and have an interactive experience with four works of art, plus shorter discussions around an additional two to four works of art. Guided tours last approximately one hour.

What times are tours available?
Guided tours for prekindergarten through twelfth-grade students are available Tuesday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. A guided tour lasts approximately one hour. You can check available dates and times using our tour booking system.

When do I need to book my tour?
School group tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance. Please note that the museum is not able to accommodate school group tours and self-guided student groups on select program days such as the third Wednesday of the month during Access for All.

I am a teacher who will be asking for additional chaperone support on our field trip day. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
Yes! We can offer one complimentary admission pass for every ten students. Beyond that, chaperones must pay museum admission. We allow up to three chaperones for every ten students. If there are additional chaperones, they must wait in the Robinson Atrium or Margaretta Taylor Lobby while the students participate in the tour or workshop. We are happy to make accommodations for students who require extra support; please provide advance notice by contacting museum staff at schooltours@high.org.

Students or children under four years old who are not part of the class cannot participate in tours or workshops and must stay with their guardians until the tours or workshops are complete.

Please contact schooltours@high.org for questions and concerns.

I am a chaperone on my student’s field trip. What should I expect?
We are grateful for your support on this exciting day for your student! If you are not traveling on the bus with your student, you may park in the Woodruff Arts Center Parking Garage or at any surrounding parking locations. We are unable to offer parking validation. After parking, you can enter the main entrance when the museum opens. Our Guest Relations team will direct you to the school groups location. Admission, parking, and maps are located here.
