What are the museum’s hours?
The High is open Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 noon–5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays. The last ticket each day is issued one hour prior to closing. Hours are subject to change.
The museum is closed for major holidays including Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
How much does admission cost?
Admission for visitors ages 6 and older is $23.50. Children ages 5 and younger are admitted free. Groups of 10 or more receive a 10% discount for self-guided visits.
What does my ticket include?
Tickets to the High include admission to the collection galleries and most special exhibitions.
Can I leave and re-enter the museum?
Yes — you may exit the museum and return later in the day. Simply retain your electronic or printed ticket to present upon re-entry. Tickets are valid from the printed entrance time through the end of operating hours on the day of your visit.
Is parking available?
The Woodruff Arts Center garage can fill up on weekends. To guarantee a spot, visitors are encouraged to reserve parking in advance. Pre-paid parking is available for purchase when you add weekend tickets to your cart.
Is there public transit access?
Yes, the High is located directly across the street from the MARTA Arts Center Station (N5). Exit the station at the top level and follow signs to the museum. Bus stops are also nearby.
What should I know before I arrive?
The galleries tend to run cold for the protection of the artwork, so please dress accordingly. Large backpacks, umbrellas, and other bulky items must be checked. Coat check is located in the Taylor Lobby and is provided free of charge.
Can I take photos?
Non-flash photography is encouraged in the High’s permanent collection galleries. The museum offers free Wi-Fi to visitors, so feel free to connect and share your photos on social media. For professional photography and filming, information can be found in the High’s online Press Room.
Can I sketch in the galleries?
Sketching is encouraged in the High’s permanent collection galleries and select special exhibitions. You may write notes or sketch using only dry media, such as pencils and crayons. Please refrain from leaning against walls or glass cases while sketching.
Are strollers permitted?
Baby strollers are permitted in the permanent collection galleries. Wagons and large jogging strollers are not permitted. Strollers are available for free use on a first-come, first-served basis with an ID at the Wieland Lobby coat check. Stroller use may be restricted in special exhibition galleries due to loan restrictions and high visitor volume.
Is the museum wheelchair accessible?
Manual wheelchairs and lightweight, collapsible stools are available for free use on a first-come, first-served basis. To check one out, please inquire with a security officer in the Taylor Lobby.
Are there sensory resources available?
A sensory guide is available to help you prepare for your visit, covering logistics as well as information on sensory stimuli you may encounter. A sensory map is also available online and at the Admissions and Information desk to help locate quieter, less crowded spaces with low light or opportunities for tactile engagement.
Where are the restrooms?
Restrooms are located on all floors of the Wieland Pavilion, all floors of the Anne Cox Chambers Wing, and on the Lobby and Lower Levels of the Stent Family Wing. All restrooms include an accessible stall, baby-changing facilities, and nearby drinking fountains. Separate single-stall, gender-neutral and family-friendly restrooms are available in most restroom locations.
Is there dining at the museum?
The High offers food options, from fine dining at Elise to quick snacks at CJ’s Cafe to coffee and pastries at Refuge Coffee Co. Members receive a 10% discount at CJ’s and Elise. Visitors are also welcome to pack a lunch and eat at the tables on the piazza.
Are guided tours available?
Docent-led tours are available Tuesday through Sunday during regular museum hours. They are suitable for visitors ages 6 and older, last approximately one hour, and can accommodate up to 48 people. All group tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance.
What are the benefits of membership?
Members enjoy early access to new exhibitions, free admission, exclusive discounts when shopping and dining, free daytime parking, and other perks. A Museum Pass is also available for $48, offering a year of unlimited daytime admission.
What is in the museum’s collection?
The High features a collection of more than 20,000 works of art, including an extensive anthology of 19th- and 20th-century American fine and decorative arts; major holdings of photography and folk and self-taught work, especially that of artists from the American South; burgeoning collections of modern and contemporary art, including paintings, sculpture, new media and design; a growing collection of African art, with work dating from pre-history through the present; and significant holdings of European paintings and works on paper.
