Things to Do This Summer at the High
Looking for things to do in Atlanta this summer? Make the High part of your plans.
Play outside with Los Porfiados (The Stubborns), a free installation by Chilean creative studio gt2P. See Amy Sherald: American Sublime, featuring the artist’s official portrait of Michelle Obama. Explore Isamu Noguchi: “I am not a designer,” with sculpture, furniture, lighting, playgrounds, and more.
Add live music, family programs, free admission days, coffee, dining, and five floors of art, all in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. The High is easy to reach by train, just across the street from MARTA’s Arts Center Station.
Featured This Summer
Start outside with Los Porfiados, a free outdoor installation by Chilean creative studio gt2P. Inspired by a classic wobbling toy from Chile, this playful installation fills the High’s piazza with colorful sculptures that bend, bounce, and return to balance.
Come by for a quick photo stop, bring kids for an easy outdoor art moment, or use it as the starting point for a full day at the museum.
See Amy Sherald’s powerful portraits up close, including her official portrait of Michelle Obama. Known for bold color, stillness, style, and presence, Sherald paints Black American life at a monumental scale.
This major exhibition brings together some of her most celebrated works, including portraits that have helped shape the way people see American history, culture, and identity.
Want a calmer way to see Amy Sherald: American Sublime? Visit on a Friday evening for after-hours access with fewer crowds, a cash bar, and a free exhibition poster.
Please note: During VIP Nights, the rest of the museum closes at 5 p.m.
Step into the world of Isamu Noguchi, an artist who refused to fit into one category. His work moved between sculpture, design, architecture, lighting, furniture, playgrounds, gardens, and stage sets.
This exhibition is a great choice for visitors who love beautiful objects, modern design, creative spaces, and art that feels both thoughtful and playful.
